About the Company and Role:

Apton Biosystems is a biotechnology instrumentation platform company pioneering super-resolution imaging to provide the world's most-dense DNA sequencing and single molecule detection.

We seek a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our R&D team as Scientist. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and optimization of library prep for a well characterized, robust workflow, reagents, consumables, and assay development, as well as production growth. They will contribute to the development of processes and assays that are used to track or characterize the library prep process and sequencing operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of NGS library prep, reagents, and sequencing workflow
  • Characterize and prepare customer samples for sequencing
  • Maintain laboratory notebook in a complete, consistent, and concise manner
  • Assist with lab setup and organization
  • Assist with documentation and process transfer to manufacturing
  • Participate in multidisciplinary projects and collaborate with surface chemists, hardware and software engineers, and bioinformatics teams to improve in-house sequencing system performance

Qualifications:

  • BS in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related life science field with 5+ years of work experience in biotechnology or life science research and development, MS with 2+ years
  • Proficient in standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques such as PCR, quantitative PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extraction and purification
  • Good lab record keeping and organization skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented, highly motivated, can-do attitude
  • Desire to learn and grow, to be part of a rapidly growing and changing organization
  • Experience in NGS sequencing or NGS library preparation a plus
  • Experience in biotech start-up a plus
